Container tracking for clearing & forwarding agents

A clearing agent runs many clients' containers through Dar es Salaam at once. Trakora loads the whole discharge list from your Excel manifest, gives every cargo client a login scoped to their own boxes, and watches dwell and vessel dates — so demurrage stops being a surprise on the invoice.

Why agents bring us this

The clearing agent's four headaches

Each fix below is a real feature of the container e-lock module — the mono tag names it.

The vessel manifest lands as a spreadsheet and every container gets retyped into another system.

Excel import loads the whole discharge list in one pass, each line becoming a booking. / excel-import + / vessel-manifest

Every cargo owner phones you daily to ask where their container is.

The multi-tenant client portal gives each client a login scoped to only their own containers. / client-portal

A container sits at the yard and the demurrage bill is the first you hear of it.

The long_stay_locked rule flags a container idle beyond its dwell threshold, before the days add up. / long_stay_locked

A late vessel quietly eats your client's free days and nobody adjusts the plan.

The vessel_overdue rule fires when the vessel misses its expected date, so you can react to free-day risk. / vessel_overdue

Dwell watch — clients on one login

Four containers across three clients, showing dwell days at the yard. One flagged for exceeding its dwell threshold, labelled in words not colour alone.

Illustrative figures for layout only — not a customer record. The dwell threshold is a configured value, and each client sees only their own rows in the portal.

What you run on it

The agent's toolkit

Real features of the container module, in the order a clearing agent uses them.

Excel & vessel-manifest import

Bulk-load an entire discharge list from the spreadsheet you already keep — no line-by-line retyping.

/ excel-import

Per-client portal

Each cargo client logs in and sees only their own containers — you answer the "where is it?" calls once, by inviting them.

/ client-portal

Dwell & demurrage watch

A container idle beyond its dwell threshold raises long_stay_locked — the money-burning box, flagged early.

/ long_stay_locked

Vessel-date watch

When a booking's vessel misses its expected date, vessel_overdue fires so free-day risk reaches you, not just the shipping line.

/ vessel_overdue

Signed PDF per booking

Every container closes with a signed PDF trail — lock applied, departed, checkpoints, arrival, unlocked — that you can hand to the client.

/ container-bookings

Corridor & tamper cover

Off-route and tamper alerts on the inland leg, so an in-transit exception reaches you the same as it reaches the transporter.

Important to be clear about

What Trakora is — and is not

A clearing agent has to know exactly what a tool does before recommending it to a client. Here is the line.

What this cannot do

  • Trakora is an operations and monitoring platform. It is not an accredited customs seal system and does not replace a customs seal where TRA or TPA mandate one — it records and proves chain-of-custody with a signed PDF trail alongside the official process.
  • We make no TBS-approval claim for the e-lock on this page. Any device-certification status is stated only where it can be verified, never assumed.
  • Trakora is not appointed as an electronic-cargo-tracking (ECTS) concessionaire. Where a regulated ECTS seal is required, that is a separate, TRA-governed arrangement — talk to us about how Trakora sits alongside it, not in place of it.
  • Dwell and vessel alerts depend on the thresholds and expected dates you configure. A container with no dwell threshold set is tracked, but not dwell-evaluated.
  • The e-lock reports over GSM; in a dead zone, fixes and events buffer and backfill on reconnection with their original timestamps.

Figures and certifications shown as are to be confirmed — this page makes no accredited-customs-seal, TBS-approval or ECTS-concessionaire claim, and publishes no per-container price, because none is asserted or fixed here. See the container pricing page for tiers. No claim or number here is invented.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can I load a whole discharge list at once?

Yes — Excel import and vessel-manifest import load the entire list in one pass, with each container becoming a booking. No line-by-line retyping.

Can each of my clients see only their own containers?

Yes. The client portal is multi-tenant, so every cargo client logs in and sees only their own bookings — you invite them once instead of fielding daily calls.

Does it help with demurrage?

It watches dwell: the long_stay_locked rule flags a container idle beyond its threshold, and vessel_overdue flags a late vessel — both surface free-day and demurrage risk early.

Is the e-lock an accredited customs seal?

No. Trakora is an operations and monitoring platform. It records chain-of-custody alongside the official customs process; it does not replace a mandated customs seal, and we make no TBS or ECTS-concessionaire claim here.

What does my client get at the end?

A signed PDF audit trail per booking — lock applied, departed, checkpoints, arrival, unlocked — that you can hand over as proof the container was watched end to end.

How much does it cost per container?

Container tracking is priced per device per month in TZS with a VAT invoice; the exact per-container figure is scoped to your volume. See the container pricing page.
