Know the moment your child gets on the bus
Every school morning a parent asks the same quiet question: did my child actually get on the bus? Trakora answers it before the worry starts. When a student taps their RFID card at the gate or on the bus, the registered parent gets an SMS or WhatsApp — and a parent app that shows their own child, and only their own child.

One card tap, one message, the right parent
The parent app does not ask you to watch a map all morning. It works the way a parent actually wants: something happens to your child — they board, they alight — and your phone tells you. Every message is tied to a real RFID scan, not a guess, and it goes only to the contact registered for that student. No child data is collected on this page; the flow below is how it works once a school sets it up.
The card touches the reader
At the school gate or on the bus, the student taps their RFID card. The scan is written against that student's record — the same scan the school's attendance register is built from, so the parent message and the school's record agree.
The registered parent is messaged
That scan sends an SMS or WhatsApp to the contact registered for the student — "boarded", "alighted", with the time. It is an event-driven message, not a subscription to a live feed you have to keep checking.
The app shows your own child
Open the parent app and you see your child's boarding history and today's status — scoped to your child alone. You never see the school roll, the bus manifest, or another family's child.
A parent's own timeline — one child, one day
| Time (EAT) | Event | Where | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 06:52 | Boarded morning bus | Home stop | On board |
| 07:34 | Alighted at school | School gate | Arrived |
| 15:10 | Afternoon bus running late | Route notice | Delay noted |
| 15:26 | Boarded afternoon bus | School gate | On board |
Illustrative figures for layout only — not a real student. A parent's app shows only their own child; times and events come from real scans once a school is set up.
The parent app, in plain terms
Grounded in the real VMS features — parent portal, RFID boarding, bus zones and attendance — plus live position from the Fleet module where the school enables it.
Boarding & alighting alerts
An SMS or WhatsApp the moment your child taps on or off, tied to a real RFID scan — the plainest answer there is to "did they get on the bus".
/ parent-portalYour own child, and only yours
The app is scoped to your student. You see their boarding history and today's status; you never see the school roll, the manifest or another family's child.
/ parent-portalAttendance you can trust
Because the parent message and the school register come from the same scans, "present" means the card actually tapped — not a tick added later from memory.
/ attendanceStop & zone notices
Where the school defines the stops and depot as bus zones, entry and exit raise notices — so a parent can be told the bus has reached the stop area, not just guess.
/ bus-zonesLive bus position (via Fleet)
Live location and route replay come from the Fleet module the school runs the buses on. Where the school turns it on for parents, the app can show where the bus is — a Fleet capability, not a separate claim.
/ fleetSwahili & English messages
Notifications reach parents in Swahili or English, from a team in Dar es Salaam — a message a Tanzanian parent reads at a glance, not a foreign template.
/ parent-portalHonest limits
The parent app is one part of a school's transport system. Being clear about the edges keeps a parent's trust.
What this cannot do
- The parent app is bought and enabled by the school, not by a parent directly. It works once your school runs Trakora's school transport system, issues the RFID cards and registers your contact. If your school is not on it yet, point them to the school page.
- Messages depend on the card being tapped. If a child boards without tapping, or a reader is offline, there is no scan to notify from — the system reflects the taps it actually receives.
- Live bus position is a Fleet-module capability the school controls. Whether parents see the live map is the school's choice, not a guarantee of this page.
- Notification delivery relies on the mobile network. SMS and WhatsApp arrive as the network allows; a message can be delayed in poor coverage.
- Trakora is a notification and attendance layer, not a guarantee of a child's safety. It tells you what the scans show; the care on the ground stays with the school and the driver.
Figures shown as — are to be confirmed — the school buys the system and pricing is quoted per deployment in TZS with a VAT invoice, set out on the school transport pricing page. A national in-bus camera requirement for school buses has been reported but is unverified and not treated as an in-force mandate here. No number or rule is invented on this page.
Frequently asked questions
How do parents track a school bus with Trakora?
Not by staring at a map. When your child taps their RFID card at the gate or on the bus, you get an SMS or WhatsApp — boarded or alighted, with the time — and the parent app shows your child's status. Where the school enables it, live bus position is available too, from the Fleet module.
Do I get an SMS or do I need the app?
Both are available. Notifications come by SMS and WhatsApp to your registered contact, so you are told even without opening anything. The app adds your child's boarding history and today's status when you want to look.
Can I see other children on the bus?
No — and that is deliberate. The parent app is scoped to your own child. You see their boarding history and status; you cannot see the school roll, the bus manifest or any other family's child. Every family sees only their own.
Can I sign up as a parent directly?
The system is bought and set up by the school, which issues the RFID cards and registers your contact. If your school does not use Trakora yet, share the school transport page with them — the parent app comes on once they enable it.
What about the LATRA in-bus camera requirement?
A national requirement for interior cameras on school and commuter buses has been reported, but it is unverified and not yet treated here as an in-force mandate. Trakora's parent app is about RFID boarding, attendance and parent notifications; we will not overstate a rule that is not confirmed. Check the current position with LATRA compliance.
Is the parent app in Swahili?
Yes. Notifications reach parents in Swahili or English, from a team based in Dar es Salaam, so the message reads naturally rather than like a translated foreign template.
