Cold-chain
The Cold-chain module is built for vaccines, pharma, dairy, fish, and frozen meat. It is designed against Tanzania MoH PQS guidance and supports MoH excursion audits out of the box.
1. Commission a sensor
For BLE probes follow the BLE temperature probe pairing guide. For a fixed wired sensor (4–20 mA or 0–10 V):
- Wire the sensor to a Concox JM-VL01 with auxiliary input or to a Trakora Edge gateway.
- Cold Chain → Sensors → New sensor.
- Pick the parent device, the auxiliary channel, and a sensor template (vaccine fridge, walk-in freezer, reefer container).
- Save. The first reading appears within 60 seconds.
2. Set thresholds
Trakora ships PQS-aligned templates. Common defaults:
- Vaccines — 2 °C to 8 °C, 10 min grace, alarm after 30 min above 8 °C
- Frozen vaccines (OPV) — -25 °C to -15 °C
- Insulin / pharmacy — 2 °C to 8 °C
- Dairy — 2 °C to 6 °C
- Frozen fish / meat — below -18 °C
Customise per location: a vaccine fridge in a hot zone (Mtwara, Lindi) may need a tighter alarm at 7 °C.
3. Excursion workflow
When a threshold is breached:
- Trakora alerts the cold-chain officer (push + WhatsApp).
- The officer opens the excursion in-app and acknowledges with a reason (door left open, power outage, equipment failure).
- Corrective action is logged: stock moved, fridge serviced, contents discarded.
- The cycle is closed when the temperature returns to band for ≥ 30 minutes.
4. Power-outage handling
Trakora detects loss of mains via the device's external-voltage drop and starts a power-out timer. PQS allows ~6 hours holdover for ILR fridges; you can set a per-fridge holdover. Alerts escalate at 50 %, 75 %, and 100 % of holdover.
5. Corrective actions
The corrective-action register is the document MoH inspectors ask for. Trakora records:
- Date and time, sensor, fridge, and the readings around the excursion
- Officer who acknowledged, reason, action taken
- Whether stock was destroyed and the destruction certificate reference
6. CSV / PDF export for MoH audit
Cold Chain → Reports → Excursion log → Export. Pick a date range. CSV and PDF outputs include readings per minute, excursion summaries, and corrective actions in MoH-recognised columns.
