Family Safety

The Family Safety module is the consumer slice of Trakora — a compact GPS+SOS device for kids, elders, and motorbikes, paired to a family-friendly app. This guide sets up the device, the safe zones, and the family circle.

1. Power on the device

  • Charge for 2 hours.
  • Hold the power button for 4 seconds. The status LED pulses blue.
  • The device falls asleep after 60 seconds without movement and wakes on motion to save battery (typical 5–7 days).

2. Add the device to your account

  1. In the Trakora app go to Family → New device and scan the QR sticker on the back.
  2. Give it a name (Amani's watch, Bibi's pendant, Bodaboda).
  3. Pick a colour and an avatar.

3. SOS

Holding the SOS button for 3 seconds triggers an emergency:

  • All family-circle members receive a push, a call, and a WhatsApp.
  • The device starts a 60-second voice broadcast so the responder can hear the surroundings.
  • High-frequency GPS pings start until the SOS is cleared.

To clear, the device wearer holds power for 5 seconds, or any family member taps Stand-down in the app.

4. Safe zones

Draw a circle around home, school, work, the boda stand. The app pushes:

  • Arrived at school (geofence enter)
  • Left school (geofence exit)
  • Late from school — if the device hasn't arrived by 16:30 EAT, escalate

You can have up to 10 safe zones per device.

5. Family circle

  1. Family → Circle → Invite.
  2. Send the invite link via WhatsApp.
  3. The invitee installs Trakora and accepts.
  4. Choose what they can see: live location, history, alerts, or all three.

Privacy: location is shared only with circle members; Trakora staff never see family-account locations except when responding to a verified SOS.

6. Battery and signal tips

  • The device drains faster in low-signal areas — keep it on the side of the bag rather than deep inside.
  • For motorbikes, hard-wire to ignition power (12 V); the battery becomes a backup only.
  • Replace the SIM annually if you notice connection drops; M2M cards age.
